If you are planning a website or an online store, the first question is almost always the same: how much does a website cost? The short answer: anything from a few tens of thousands of forints to several million. The longer answer is in this article. We go through 2026 website development prices and webshop development prices on the Hungarian market by type, show what drives the final figure, and explain what to watch out for so that hidden costs do not eat up your budget.
Website development prices at a glance (2026)
The ranges below are based on publicly available 2026 price lists and summaries from the Hungarian market. They are indicative only: the exact price always depends on your specific requirements.
- Simple brochure website: approx. HUF 100,000–250,000 – for start-ups and sole traders.
- Multi-page company website: approx. HUF 250,000–800,000 – for SMEs and service companies.
- Custom website or web portal: up to several million HUF – for custom features, client portals and integrations.
- Hosted (rented) webshop: from a few thousand HUF per month – for smaller product ranges and a quick launch.
- Open-source webshop (e.g. WooCommerce): typically a few hundred thousand HUF – for mid-sized stores, if someone is there to run it.
- Custom online store: rarely below HUF 500,000, often in the millions – for custom processes, B2B, and warehouse and invoicing integrations.
Website prices by type
Simple brochure website
A website of one to a few pages that introduces the company, with services, contact details and a quote request form. If it is built on a ready-made template and you supply the texts and images, prices typically start at around HUF 100,000. With only a few subpages, however, there is little room for search engine optimisation, so companies often outgrow it in the long run.
Multi-page company website
This is what most SMEs need: a separate subpage for every service, a blog or news section, references, a fast and mobile-friendly design, and basic search engine optimisation. On public 2026 price lists, a website like this typically costs HUF 250,000–800,000; with a custom design, copywriting or several languages it can be more.
Custom-built website or web portal
If the website also has to do real work (client portal, appointment booking, several websites from one admin, integration with your CRM or invoicing system), we are talking about custom development. Here the price is driven by the features and can easily reach millions of forints. You can read more about this on our web portal development page.
Webshop development prices
Hosted (SaaS) online store
Monthly fees for hosted (SaaS) webshops typically start from a few thousand forints per month; Shopify's basic plan costs about USD 29 per month when paid annually. Their advantage is a quick launch; the downside is that the monthly fee grows with your turnover and add-ons, and custom requirements (such as a custom warehouse integration) are hard to implement.
Open-source webshop (for example WooCommerce)
The software itself is free, but the build, the theme, the paid plugins and the hosting all cost money: building a store like this typically costs a few hundred thousand forints. Continuous updates are also a significant item, because security flaws in plugins come to light regularly.
Custom online store
A custom online store is worth choosing if your purchasing process differs from the usual one, if you need B2B sales (reseller prices, quote basket), or if the webshop also has to talk to your warehouse and invoicing software. Projects like these rarely come in under half a million forints and are often in the millions. We build on our own content management system with ready-made webshop modules, so the core features do not have to be developed from scratch. Details on our webshop development page.
What does the price of a website depend on?
- Number and structure of pages: 5 subpages or 50 – the work involved in planning, uploading content and SEO scales with it.
- Template or custom design: a custom visual design costs more, but sets you apart from your competitors.
- Copywriting and photos: if the developer also writes the search-optimised texts, that is a separate item, but it makes a big difference to your Google ranking.
- Features: appointment booking, client portal, multiple languages, calculators, AI chatbot.
- Integrations: online payment, invoicing, CRM, warehouse software, newsletter.
- Search engine optimisation: technical SEO, keyword research, metadata and speed.
- Content management system: a free system with plugins, a rented platform, or a CMS developed in-house.
After launch: annual running costs
The cost of a website does not stop at handover. These are the items worth budgeting for every year:
- Domain: the annual fee for a .hu domain is typically a few thousand forints.
- Hosting: hosting for a small or medium-sized website costs a few tens of thousands of forints a year; for example, 4 GB of SSD hosting at aamhosting.hu costs HUF 21,900 a year.
- Updates and security: regular plugin updates for open-source systems, or a maintenance fee for custom-built systems.
- Content and SEO: blog posts, new subpages and search engine optimisation, so that the website actually brings in customers.
- For webshops: the monthly fee of a hosted system, payment provider transaction fees, plugin licence fees.
A cheap website or an investment?
The cheapest offer is rarely the cheapest solution. If the website is slow, does not show up in Google, or gets hacked because of a missed update, rebuilding it and the lost orders will cost more than you saved at the start. The better question to ask is: how many orders will the site bring in? A well-built, search-optimised website works for the company for years, even without advertising spend.
How to request an accurate quote
The more precise your request, the more precise and comparable the quotes you receive. Write down:
- what your company does and who your target customers are,
- what you want to achieve with the website (quote requests, bookings, online sales),
- how many pages and which features you need,
- whether you already have a brand identity, texts and photos,
- which systems it needs to connect to (invoicing, CRM, warehouse),
- whether there is a deadline and a planned budget.
The good news is that a new website or webshop may also be funded through programmes that support the digitalisation of SMEs. You can find the current opportunities on our Grants page.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a website cost for a small business?
On the Hungarian market, a multi-page, search-optimised website for a small business typically costs between HUF 250,000 and 800,000; a simple brochure site costs less. On top of that come the annual domain and hosting fees.
How much does a webshop cost?
With a hosted webshop you can start from a few thousand forints a month, building an open-source webshop typically costs a few hundred thousand forints, and a custom online store rarely costs less than half a million forints.
Why do quotes differ so much?
Because they include different things: in some cases the price only covers setting up a template, while in others it includes keyword research, copywriting, custom design, search engine optimisation and hosting as well. Always ask for an itemised list of what the quote includes.
How long does it take to build a website?
A smaller company website is usually ready in a few weeks; a webshop or custom development takes several weeks or months. The deadline is often determined by when the texts and images are ready.
