What's the difference between a web portal and a website?
A website mainly presents: it tells people who you are and what you offer. A web portal does more: visitors register, log in, manage their affairs and access documents – or you run several connected websites from a single system. Multiple websites from one admin, with shared content
Our in-house content management system (Appon CMS) can serve several public websites from a single database. You manage them all from one admin interface, and you decide which colleague can access which site, with which permissions.
Content can be shared between sites: a news item published on one website can automatically appear on another site in the portal, according to rules agreed during planning. There's no need to upload the same content to several places separately.
Security you don't have to pay extra for
Automated bots constantly scan for known vulnerabilities in open-source systems, so even one missed update can leave a security hole. We develop and run our own systems: we regularly carry out vulnerability testing in our test environment, and every web portal we host receives the fixes automatically.

The price depends on the number of user roles, features and integrations. Because we build the portal on our own ready-made CMS, the core features (user management, permissions, content management, SEO) don't have to be developed again. After discovery we give you an itemised quote.
How long does it take to build a web portal?
A simpler customer portal can be ready in a few weeks, while a portal with several websites and integrations usually takes several months. We give you an exact schedule once the specification is complete.
What is a customer portal or client area?
It's a login-protected area where your customers can handle their own affairs: check their appointments, download documents and invoices, or send you a message. It reduces phone and email enquiries.
Can it connect to our existing systems?
Yes. The portal can be connected via API to invoicing software, online payments, a CRM, an ERP system or other internal software, so data never has to be transferred by hand.
